W. B. Wicker Business Campus

Restoring History, Embracing Lives

Brick Capital Community Development Corporation and Self-Help Ventures Fund, and all their partners; City of Sanford, County of Lee, The W. B. Wicker Alumni Association, Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta, National Trust for Historic Preservation and The North Carolina Division of Community Assistance; joyfully opened its W.B. Wicker Business Campus, the former W. B. Wicker School.

Hundreds were in attendance to hear guest speakers, Mayor of Sanford Cornelia Olive, Lee County Board of Commissioners Chairman Herb Hincks, U. S. Congressman Bob Etheridge, N. C. Senator Bob Atwater, Alumni Barbara Partridge, Percy Petty, Brenda Johnson, and Samuel McLean commend the successful beginning of this wonderful project.

President of the Alumni Association, Barbara Partridge was given a key to the W. B. Wicker Historic Room.  Percy Petty recited a fabulous poem about the Wicker Tigers.  Samuel McLean called all the alumni to sing the school song, which proved to be the highlight of the party and touched the hearts of many who attended.

Attorney Bill Wilson purchased the building knowing he wanted to give it back to the community.  The Brick Capital Community Development Corporation staff and Board worked very hard to bring the vision to life.

The W. B. Wicker Business Campus houses CCCC Children’s Dental Center, CCCC Dental Hygiene Program, Excel Tutoring and Personal Development, The Academic and Enrichment Center, Community Computer Center and the Small Business Center.  The Alumni will have a Historic Display Room that will have all the valuable memories of the school.  Although the Wicker School was built in 1927, it truly has been brought back to life.
